The names Murphy and Udland are readily identified with the success Millburn High School’s cross-country team has enjoyed during the past four years. Among the standouts who’ve led the Millers to four consecutive Conference titles, three straight County championships, and a first or second-place finish at the State Section Championship Meet each of the past four autumns are Charlie, Peter, and John Murphy, and Myles, Tyler, and Blake Udland. And then there’s the “fourth Udland,” as New Jersey’s most renowned track authority, Ed Grant, labels Brian Robinson.  Full story »

Still, it was obvious which end of the equation Madison Coach Chris Kubik was more concerned about. After being burned twice by the area’s best football player, Kubik decided to match elite athlete against elite athlete. Aaron Fant, the cornerback on the opposite side when Machado made those two catches, was assigned to cover Max on whichever flank he aligned, and Fant shadowed Machado the remainder of the ballgame - or at least until the Dodgers’ resultant 35-14 victory became a foregone conclusion.  Full story »

It goes without question that the objective of any sports team entering a tournament is to bring home the title. Though the fulfillment of that goal has repeatedly eluded the Madison High School volleyball team, the 2009 Lady Dodgers continually displayed the skill and determination that made this autumn’s contingent one of the strongest ever to hit the Madison court.  Full story »

However, the final record doesn’t accurately reflect the superb effort and performance of the athletes. Although both contests resulted in one-goal defeats, Kent Place’s first matches against archrivals Oak Knoll and New Providence (each of whom possessed outstanding squads this autumn) were dramatic battles right to the final whistle.  Full story »

Needing to replace the premier player in the program’s history - (June graduate Marika Racibarskas, now seeing action on a Penn State team ranked number-one in the nation) - along with Coach Linda Dolansky - (whose new fulltime job forced her to relinquish that post) - the Chatham High School volleyball team surely faced a degree of uncertainty entering the 2009 autumn. However, with the arrival of Coach Brad Kniewel, a lot of determination, and a group of very talented athletes, the girls concluded their season with an impressive record of 22-4.  Full story »

The success of the 2009 Millburn High School girls soccer team wasn’t a certainty prior to the season. The move to a more difficult conference, as well as a reconstructed varsity roster that included six freshmen, left a doubt as to whether Millburn would still be a championship contender. Yet the Lady Millers were able to fight through these obstacles to fashion one of the most successful campaigns in MHS history.  Full story »
