Flood Watch issued for Somerset, neighboring counties due to rain headed this way

Bound Brook, Manville, Raritan and other parts of Somerset County could again experience flooding, due to a rain storm expected to hit later Monday and Tuesday. The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly this afternoon issued a Flood Watch for parts of northern New Jersey including Somerset, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris and Sussex counties. Somerville, Raritan considering switch to county dispatcher

Hillsborough Schools will lose $5.1 million with state aid cut

HILLSBOROUGH — With a 19.6% reduction in state aid, Hillsborough School District faces $5.1 million more to be cut from its proposed budget. The district had been preparing for a worst-cased scenario of a 15% reduction in state aid, or $3.4 million more to be cut from the budget. Somerset County won't sell cigars at its golf courses

The county Parks Commission will not be tempting the golfing public to smoke cigars anytime soon. Yesterday the commission rejected a bid from a cigar vendor and reaffirmed its 2007 policy of not selling tobacco products, according to parks director Raymond A. Brown. He noted that the one bid received “was not responsive to the request” made by the commission.... Full story »
