Monmouth stuns Rider in NEC field hockey semi

    Saturday, November 07, 2009
    STAFF WRITER

The top-seeded Rider field hockey team entered the Northeast Conference tournament semifinals with only one loss, but was stunned by fourth-seeded Monmouth, 2-1, in overtime yesterday at Mercer County Community College in West Windsor.

Nors Bosmans scored off a rebound 11 minutes into OT for the winning goal. Monmouth improved to 9-11.

Erin McGinniss scored for Rider (17-2), the regular-season champion.

"We were not at the top of our game today," said Rider head coach Lori Hussong. "We didn't move to the ball well and give Monmouth credit, they outhustled us to every loose ball. They were ready to play and we weren't up for the challenge."

Entering yesterday's game, Rider had defeated the Hawks nine straight times, including 3-1 on Oct. 9 in West Long Branch.

    Princeton 7, Penn 0

NCAA Tournament-bound Princeton (14-2, 7-0) completed a perfect season in the Ivy League by blasting Penn in Philadelphia. Michelle Cesan netted a hat trick and Kathleen Sharkey scored twice.

    MEN'S ICE HOCKEY

    St. Lawrence 5, Princeton 2

Michael Sdao and Tyler Beachell scored goals for Princeton (1-2) at Baker Rink.

    MEN'S SOCCER

    Rider 3, Manhattan 1

Rider (5-11, 2-6) earned a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win as Billy Voutsinas, Nico Tramontana and Sam Kotowski scored goals.
