3 vie for 2 open borough council seats
PENNS GROVE- Three residents are running for the two open three-year terms on the borough council this year.
Republican incumbent Janet Bercute, along with Democrat newcomers Marc Oliver and Eric Myers will be fighting for a seat on the seven-member council.
The council is currently comprised of five Democrats and two Republicans.
Here is a look at the candidates:
Bercute, 52, has served on the borough council for the past three years. She has chosen to run for re-election because she wants to keep improving the quality of the town.
"I enjoy being a public servant," she said.
Aside from currently serving on the council, Bercute, who works as a corporate secretary at EcReCon, Inc., said she brings both business and public relations skills to the table.
Bercute said although the borough is facing many issues, she plans to focus on the positive things happening in Penns Grove.
"We have to work forward through obstacles. We need to keep people involved and try to create a better quality of life for everyone," she said.
She also hopes to reform the borough's budget.
